Secret of the Kaabah

All Muslims believe that the Kaabah was built by Abraham and Ishmael.

“And remember Abraham and Isma’il raised the foundations of the house (With this prayer): “Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us: For Thou art the All-Hearing, the All-knowing.” (Sura 2:127)

Although the Quran does not specifically name WHAT exactly was built or WHERE exactly Abraham and Ishmael built it, Muslims have concluded that it must refer to the Kaabah in Mecca.

This assumption poses a dilemma to Islam. The Quran is clear that NO messengers were sent to the Arabs BEFORE Muhammad as illustrated by the following verses, among a handful of others in the Quran.

Or say they: “He (Muhammad SAW) has fabricated it?” Nay, it is the truth from your Lord, that you may warn a people to whom no warner has come before you (O Muhammad SAW), in order that they may be guided. (32:3)

And We had not given them Scriptures which they could study, nor sent to them before you (O Muhammad SAW) any warner (Messenger). (34:44)

This shows neither Abraham nor Ishmael were sent to the Arabs, nor even set foot in Mecca! To insist otherwise is to also insist that Allah and the Quran got it wrong!

According to Muhammad, the mosque of the kaabah was allegedly built 40 years before the mosque at Jerusalem.

Narrated Abu Dhaar:
“I said, ‘O Allah’s Apostle! Which mosque was built first?’ He replied, ‘Al-Masjid-ul-Haram.’ I asked, ‘Which (was built) next?’ He replied, ‘Al-Masjid-ul-Aqs-a (i.e. Jerusalem).’ I asked, ‘What was the period in between them? He replied, forty years.’

Sahih Bukhari 4:55:636

According to every historical record: Al-Aqsa was built in 691 AD by the Caliph Abd al-Malik and completed by his son al-Walid in 705 AD.
This is a disaster because in this hadith we find Muhammad supposedly speaking of a mosque (Al-Aqsa) that would only exist 60 years after his death! He never saw the mosque and he had never heard of the mosque in his lifetime!

Some Muslim scholars sidestep this by claiming that Muhammad meant the original Temple of Jerusalem and not the Al-Aqsa that was later built on its site. This opens up another can of worms.

We know when the Temple of Jerusalem was built. It was during the time of King Solomon approximately 958 BC. If Muhammad was telling the truth, this means the mosque of the Kaabah must have been built 40 years prior, i.e. around 998 BC. Who built it? Abraham ad Ishmael would have been dead for a thousand years by then!

[Besides, there is no evidence even for the existence of a city called Mecca, let alone the kaabah, in ancient history. The first time Mecca is mentioned is in an 8th century document! (Continuato Byzantia Arabica). Islam teaches that Mecca was the first and most important city and supposedly the center of the trading routes of the world. (Adam, the first man, allegedly placed the black stone in the original location in Mecca.) Surely, there must be a ton of ancient archaeological and historical evidence for such a great city. There isn’t.]

If Abraham and Ishmael did not build the kabaah, then who built it?

Remember, since no messenger or warner of Allah was ever sent to the land of the Arabs before Muhammad, we can infer that the kaabah was built by the Arabs themselves. The Arabs were pagans worshiping numerous idols.

In fact, the hadith confirms that the Kaabah was the center of idol worship for Arabs.

Narrated ‘Abdullah bin Masud: The Prophet entered Mecca and (at that time) there were three hundred-and-sixty idols around the Ka’ba. He started stabbing the idols with a stick he had in his hand and reciting: “Truth (Islam) has come and Falsehood (disbelief) has vanished.”

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 43, Number 658

For almost 20 years, Muhammad himself, the prophet of Islam, prayed towards this center of idol worship called the kaabah knowing very well that it was filled with 360 idols! Muhammad bowed and prostrated and worshiped towards this house of idols and instructed his followers to do the same!

It was only in January, 630 AD (just 2 years before his death), when Muhammad returned to Mecca, that he discarded the 360 idol statues sitting in the kaabah. Yet he did not entirely destroy the house of idols though he briefly considered it. In the end, he retained it for his religion and his god.

Egyptologist Dr. Taha Husayn: “According to one Sahih hadith, Muhammad had thought to dismantle the Ka’aba.”
Narrated Aswad: Ibn Az-Zubair said to me, “Aisha used to tell you secretly a number of things. What did she tell you about the Ka’ba?” I replied, “She told me that once the Prophet said, ‘O ‘Aisha! Had not your people been still close to the pre-Islamic period of ignorance (infidelity)! I would have dismantled the Ka’ba and would have made two doors in it; one for entrance and the other for exit.” Later on Ibn Az-Zubair did the same. (Sahih Bukhari 1:3:128)

Muhammad also retained many rituals surrounding the kaabah that was practised by the pagan Arabs for centuries, including their deep reverence for the black stone, which Muhammad also left untouched due to their sacred ritual of stone-worship.

Narrated by Abu Raja Al-Utaridi: We used to worship stones, and when we found a better stone than the first one, we would throw the first one and take the latter, but if we could not get a stone then we would collect some earth (i.e. soil) and then bring a sheep and milk that sheep over it, and perform the Tawaf (circumnavigation) around it.

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 59, Number 661

Millions of Muslims still perform the ancient pagan ritual of circumambulating the black stone to this day every year when they perform the Haj. Circumambulation of temples or deity images is an integral part of Hinduism, practised by the pagans, absorbed by Muhammad for Islam.

In fact, the Arabs venerated these stones so much that not only did they worship the Black Stone in the Ka’bah, but also they would take one of the stones of the Ka’bah as a holy object in their travels, praying to it and asking it to bless every move they made. (p. 30)

The Life of Muhammad, Muhammad Husayn Haykal

Muhammad himself was so emotionally attached to the inaminate object that he would kiss and caress it and cling to it, and his closest followers strove to do the same!

Suwaid b. Ghafala reported: I saw Umar (Allah be pleased with him) kissing the Stone and clinging to it and saying: I saw Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) having great love for you
(This Hadith has been narrated on the authority of Sufyin with the same chain of transmitters)

Sahih Muslim, Book 007, Number 2916

Narrated by Zaid bin Aslam: From his father who said: “Umar bin Al-Khattab addressed the Corner (Black Stone) saying, ‘By Allah! I know that you are a stone and can neither benefit nor harm. Had I not seen the Prophet touching and kissing you, I would never have touched and kissed you.’ Then he kissed it.”

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 26, Number 675

“The Black Stone which was sacred to the Pagans became sacred to the Muslims.
The Black Stone which was venerated by the Pagans became the focal point of the Muslim pilgrimage.
The Black Stone which had been an object of worship before the time of Muhammad became the central shrine of Islam.
Muslims today touch and kiss the Black Stone with reverence during the HajjThe kiss that the pious Muslims bestow on the Black Stone is a survival of an age old pagan practice that was common in ancient Arabia.
Muslims are kissing the same Black Stone which the Pagans were kissing before.
….The denial of the idolatrous nature of the reverence that Muslims display towards the Black Stone can be likened to that of a man who claims innocence for his adulterous affair by saying that he was only thinking of his wife while committing the illicit immoral act. Adultery is adultery. And idolatry is idolatry. The justification for the veneration of a dead stone, especially to the extent of bowing down and kissing it, can only be identified with the primitive pagan practice of idolatry than with the true spirit of monotheistic worship. It is idolatry–pure and simple. All Muslims are idolaters.” (David Iqbal Karim)

It is tragic that so many thousands have lost their lives in Mecca due to deadly stampedes, shocking accidents, riots, fires, diseases, etc
