Is Jesus Creator?

We know ONLY God has the ability to create.  No one else. This goes without saying.  One of God’s unique attributes is that He is the Creator. It’s His identity alone and is what makes Him unique. Nothing and no one else can be creator.

With that in mind, let’s see what the Bible teaches about Jesus,  and then we will look at what the Quran says.

First, according to the Bible:

“Through Him (Jesus) all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that has been made.” John 1:3

“He (Jesus) was in the world, and though THE WORLD WAS MADE THROUGH HIM, the world did not recognize Him.” John 1:10

“For in Him (Jesus) all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him.” (Colossians 1:16)

In the miraculous feeding of the multitudes, Jesus created what did not exist. Enough food for thousands of people to eat and be satisfied, demonstrating the same creative miracle God did in the desert when He fed the people with manna. This is something only God has the ability to do.

It is clear, the Bible teaches, Jesus is Creator.

Now, let’s look at what the Quran says about Jesus.

Sura 3:49
And a messenger to the children of Israel. “Indeed, I came to you with a sign from your lord. I create for you the figure of a bird from the clay. So I breathe into it, so it will become a bird by Allah’s permission.

In this verse, we see Jesus CREATES a bird, giving it life and making it a living being.

How is it possible that Jesus can possess the same attribute of God, that makes God alone unique, to create?

Muslims will say, “But it is only by Allah’s permission.”
Even so, this does not remove the unique attribute of creator that identifies and defines God.

Giving permission is not the same as giving ability.

Let me give you an example. Let’s say, my brother does not give me permission to drive his car.  Does this mean I do not have the ABILITY to drive?
Now, if he gives me permission to drive his car, does it mean he has given me ability to drive? You see, with or without his permission, I ALWAYS HAVE THE ABILITY TO DRIVE. With or without my brother’s permission, I CAN drive his car.

So when Allah says he gave permission for Jesus to create, it does not mean Jesus was given ability to create.  The Quran does not say this.  Jesus has the ABILITY to create, an ability and attribute that  belongs  ONLY to God.

Some Muslim scholars claim, “Well, it is Allah’s prerogative to share this attribute with anyone.”
This is a huge problem. Not only does this mean that Allah has a partner and co-creator, but also more damaging to Islam, is that Allah is no longer unique!

“If God shares this attribute with Jesus, then Jesus shares in what is uniquely God’s, and so shares in the identity of God.”

Samuel Green, Is Jesus God?

The Quran, in fact, describes Jesus creating and expresses it in almost the same way as God creating. Ponder on these two verses, Sura 38:71-75 and 3:49.

Notice the remarkable similarities.

Allah: “I shall create mankind from clay…”
Jesus: “I will create for you out of clay…”

Allah: “…when I have formed him and breathed some of my Spirit into
him…”
Jesus: “…then I will breathe into it…”

The Quran itself admits Jesus has the ability reserved exclusively for God.

This can only mean one thing.
