It’s Ramadhan. Muslims all over the world fast. Some muslims will say that even Jesus fasted, so they are better followers of Jesus than Christians. Really?
Jesus said: “When you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do; for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. Fast so that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”
You muslims announce to the whole world that you are fasting and you are proud of it. Jesus calls such people hypocrites. Your fasting brings you no reward.
Most muslims do not even know that Christians also fast because Christians do not shout it out to world. It is between God and the individual. You dont even know when and why Christians fast, do you?
Why do muslims fast? Because you MUST. It’s a command. In some muslim countries, if you don’t fast you will be punished, so you do it out of FEAR.
Why do Christians fast? Not because they have to. Christians fast because they want to. They do it, not out of fear, but out of love and devotion to God and to draw near to Him.
Think about why you are fasting. Are you sure you’re doing it for God or are you doing it so that others will see you fasting and you’d feel proud when they congratulate you for being a good muslim.
