One of the most common claims made by Muslim apologists is:
“Jesus was a Muslim, because He submitted to God.”
This claim is built on a logical fallacy, falsely assuming that a person is part of a religion simply because of a surface-level similarity in action or behavior. The claim is not only false, but also deeply misleading, both theologically and historically.
To show how faulty this reasoning is, let’s turn the tactic around and watch it collapse under its own weight.
Hinduism is one of the oldest religions in the world.
🔁 1. Ritual Washing (Ablution)
- Hindus perform ritual washing (snanam) before prayers.
- Muhammad performed wudu, ritual washing before prayer.
Conclusion: Anyone who performs snanam is a Hindu. Therefore, Muhammad was Hindu.
🌙 2. Fasting and Ascetic Practice
- Hindus fast for spiritual merit (vrata).
- Muhammad instituted a strict month-long fast.
Conclusion: Anyone who performs religious fasts is a Hindu. Muhammad fasted, therefore he was a Hindu.
🔁 3. Recitation and Chanting
- Hindus repeat mantras like “Om Namah Shivaya”
- Muhammad repeated phrases like “Allahu Akbar”
Conclusion: Repetition of sacred words is a Hindu practise that Muhammad emulated.
🛐 4. Circumambulation of Sacred Objects
- Hindus walk around temples or idols (pradakshina) in reverence.
- Muhammad commanded Muslims to circle the Kaaba during Hajj (tawaf).
Conclusion: Muhammad mimicked Hindu devotion as a good Hindu.
🪨 5. Veneration of Sacred Stones
- Hindus often revere objects like stones, or lingams.
- Muhammad preserved the Black Stone in the Kaaba.
Conclusion: Muhammad revered a stone and kissed it. He demanded all his followers to kiss, caress and honour the stone, aping Hindu practices.
🔮 6. Prayer Beads for Devotion
- Hindus use japa mala beads to recite mantras.
- Muslims use tasbih to recite the names of Allah.
Conclusion: Muhammad copied Hindu practices
⛰️ 7. Cave Meditation and Solitude
- Hindu sages retreat to caves in solitude to seek divine encounter.
- Muhammad meditated alone in the Cave of Hira before receiving his first revelation.
Conclusion: Muhammad was an exemplary Hindu devotee.
🌍 8. Pilgrimage to Sacred Sites
- Hindus make yatra (pilgrimages) to places like Varanasi or the Ganges.
- Muhammad commanded pilgrimage to Mecca.
Conclusion: Anyone who makes pilgrimages to sacred sites is a Hindu. Muslims even dress like Hindus!
🧙 9. Belief in Magic Spells and Evil Eye
- Hindu mysticism involve contact with demons, curses, magic spells and evil eye.
- Muhammad himself became bewitched, succumbed to curses and believed in magic spells and the evil eye.
Conclusion: Muhammad was more Hindu than most Hindus of the world!
🕰️ 10. Fixed Times of Prayer
- Hindus perform sandhyavandanam — prayers at dawn, noon, and dusk.
- Muhammad commanded salat, the five daily prayers at fixed times.
Conclusion: Anyone who observed fixed time for prayers during the day is a Hindu.
🧠 Behaviour Is Not Belief
These parallels prove a crucial point:
Just because someone’s practices resemble another religion does not mean they belong to it.
Muslims claim Jesus prayed like a Muslim, therefore he was a Muslim. But Hindus have been prostrating in prayer for thousands of years long before Jesus or Muhammad walked the earth. So, shouldn’t it be said that anyone who prostrates in prayer is actually praying like a Hindu? Therefore, this makes them Hindu. And all Muslims are Hindus.
If you think this is absurd, that means you’re slowly beginning to see the foolishness of the argument: “Jesus is a Muslim because he prayed like a Muslim.” Using this same faulty logic, I have shown that Muhammad was a Hindu.
But wait.
Muhammad practised solitude and meditation like a Buddhist. Therefore, Muhammad was a Buddhist.
Muhammad observed dietary laws and circumcision like a Jew, Therefore, Muhammad was Jewish.
Muhammad had a private revelation from God through an angel like Joseph Smith did, therefore Muhammad was Mormon….
I could go on and on with such absurdity. You know it doesn’t make any sense, yet Muslims follow exactly the same logic to co-opt Jesus into Islam.
💥 The Deeper Issue Is Deception, If Not Ignorance
Muslims redefine:
- “Submission” as “Islam”
- “Monotheism” as “Islam”
- “Obedience to God” as “Muslim behaviour”
But these words have distinct meanings in their historical contexts.
Jesus submitted to God? Yes, as the Son of God, He submitted to the Father. And He also claimed that He was one with the Father. This isn’t Islam. Islamic submission is a slave submitting to a slave master out of fear of being thrown into hellfire. This isn’t the same as a son submitting to his father in love. This is the concept of submission in Christianity. You cannot hijack the word “submission” and monopolise it as if it only belongs in Islam.
Jesus claimed to forgive sins. He accepted worship. He proclaimed that He would raise the dead on the Day of Resurrection. No prophet would dare say such things — unless they were a blasphemer… or God.
✝️ Jesus Was Not a Muslim
Jesus did not deny His divinity. Jesus did not preach Muhammad’s religion.
Was Muhammad a Hindu? Of course not! Jesus wasn’t a Muslim either.
This is a fatal flaw in Islamic reasoning. Surface similarity is not spiritual identity.
Theology matters. Truth matters. Without lies, Islam dies.
