The Bible Has Not Been Corrupted

Manuscript science, ancient history, and common sense prove that the Bible has been preserved.

Truth Is Not Afraid of Scrutiny

In religious debates, one of the most persistent accusations—especially from Muslims—is that the Bible has been corrupted over time. It’s a serious charge. If true, Christianity collapses. If false, Islam collapses. Why? Because the Quran contradicts basic Biblical doctrines. Both cannot be true at the same time. It gets worse for Islam. Why? Because the Quran shoots itself in the foot by upholding the authority, inspiration and preservation of the previous scriptures. This is known as the Islamic Dilemma.

This post presents irrefutable evidence from hard data, not religious emotion, that prove the Bible is unchanged in its essential message and content. Let’s examine the facts.

1. The Manuscript Evidence Is Overwhelming

No other ancient text, whether religious or secular, comes close to the Bible in terms of manuscript support.

  • New Testament: Over 5,800 Greek manuscripts, 10,000+ Latin manuscripts, and over 24,000 total ancient copies and fragments.
  • Old Testament: Preserved through the careful tradition of Jewish scribes, confirmed by archaeological finds like the Dead Sea Scrolls.

To compare:

  • Homer’s Iliad (written ~800 BC) has about 1,800 surviving manuscripts.
  • Julius Caesar’s “Gallic Wars” has 10 known manuscripts.
  • Plato’s works: ~200 manuscripts, most over 1,000 years after his death.

If you trust ancient history, you must trust the Bible. The evidence is far greater.

If you were to compare wit the development of the Quran, Caliph Uthman burned numerous quranic manuscripts a few years after Muhammad died because there were too many contradicting manuscripts. He allegedly standardised one version.

2. The Dead Sea Scrolls Shut the Door on the Corruption Theory

In 1947, shepherd boys in Qumran discovered clay jars filled with ancient scrolls. These Dead Sea Scrolls included almost every book of the Old Testament, copied between 250 BC and 70 AD1,000 years older than the previously known oldest manuscripts.

When scholars compared these scrolls with today’s Hebrew Bible, the result was astonishing: they matched. Apart from minor spelling differences and scribal slips like spelling errors , the meaning and message remained untouched.

This proved that for over a millennium, the text had been faithfully transmitted.

3. The Science of Textual Criticism Proves It

“Textual criticism” is the science of restoring a text to its original form by comparing all existing manuscripts. Scholars can detect and eliminate copyist errors, and reconstruct the original wording with over 99.5% accuracy. Why not 100%? Because of variants.

What kinds of “variants” exist?

  • Most are trivial: word order, punctuation, or spelling.
  • None affect core doctrines (like the divinity of Christ, resurrection, salvation by grace).

If we apply the same scholarly method to the Bible that we use for Plato, Aristotle, or Caesar, we find a text far more reliable.

4. The Bible Was Publicly Read and Widely Distributed

The idea that the Bible was secretly altered by a group of conspirators is not only unproven—it’s IMPOSSIBLE.

By the 2nd century, the New Testament had been distributed far and wide over three continents. It was:

  • Quoted extensively in the writings of the early Church Fathers (e.g. Irenaeus, Justin Martyr, Clement).
  • Publicly read in churches across Europe, Africa, and Asia.
  • Translated into Syriac, Latin, Coptic, and Armenian.

You would have to believe that thousands of copies, in multiple languages, in dozens of nations, were all changed simultaneously. And no one noticed?

That’s not corruption. That’s conspiracy fiction.

5. The Internal Evidence Shows It Wasn’t Edited

If the Bible were changed, we’d expect embarrassing or difficult verses to be removed. But instead, we see the opposite:

  • Heroes’ failures are recorded: David’s adultery, Peter’s denial, Paul’s persecution of Christians.
  • Hard sayings of Jesus remain: “Love your enemies,” “Take up your cross,” and “I am the way… no one comes to the Father but through me.”
  • The crucifixion, which was scandalous to Jews and foolish to Greeks, was never edited out (1 Cor 1:23).

Why? Because the authors weren’t inventing stories. They were recording what really happened.

6. Early Christians Died for These Writings

If the Bible was fabricated or corrupted, why did the earliest Christians die for it?

They didn’t gain power, wealth, or political control. They were beaten, burned, and fed to lions, not for legends, but for truth.

You don’t die for a lie you made up. And you certainly don’t die for a book you know was edited.

The Evidence Is Unshakable

If someone says the Bible has been changed, the burden of proof is on them.

  • Where’s the original that was unaltered?
  • What was altered and why?
  • Who changed it, when, and how?
  • Why do all manuscripts agree on essential doctrines?
  • How could it be universally accepted if it was manipulated?

No one has credible answers.

Meanwhile, the evidence for the Bible’s preservation is overwhelming historically, textually, and logically.

As Jesus declared:

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” (Matthew 24:35)

The Bible has not been corrupted. It has been protected, by God Himself.
