Purity

God requires purity from us. “Be holy as I am holy,” he says. The standards are high. Job knew it.

Job is, of course, the man who went through suffering of epic proportions. You have to read his account in Job chapters 1 and 2 to believe it. He lost everything he had - his wealth, his children, everything. Even his wife left him saying, “What’s wrong with you? Why don’t you just curse God and die?”

We know the rest of the story. He remained faithful to his Creator and in the end God restored him and blessed him with more than he ever had.

Today I want to draw your attention to something Job said in verse 1 of chapter 31. “I have made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl.”

What an encouragement and a lesson to us all, especially men. Let’s take this to heart and let it be our model too.  Let’s make a pact with our eyes (and with one another) not to look lustfully at a girl in our workplaces, in our schools or when you’re walking down the street.

Let’s put away the magazines, switch channels on the TV and click away from the websites.  Let’s quit doing those unprofitable things with our bodies. After all, do you not know that your body is the temple of God and that the Holy Spirit dwells in you? Why grieve Him?

The apostle Paul further states: “It is God’s will that you should be sanctified; that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honourable, not in passionate lust like the heathen who do not know God. (I Thessalonians 4:3-5)

And one of the wisest men who ever lived summed it up this way. (You have to read between the lines to get this. What do you expect from a smart alec :) )

“Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well. Should your springs overflow in the public squares? Let them be yours alone, never to be shared with strangers. May your fountain be blessed and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth.” (Proverbs 5:15-18)

  1. Thank you for reminding me. It is hard to remember to live on a higher plane than a earthly plane
